ET AUSSI..

I just wanna congratulate the Australian Dollar at the moment..
C'mon lil fella.. that's the spirit!!

L'AQUARIUM

So yesterday I went to Le Palais de Porte Doree which is a spectacular art deco building on the outskirts of town.. where the Paris Aquarium is housed! It was the free museum night, so it was free and pretty great. There are all kinds of weird fish out there, it is true. Like the lungfish and elephant nosed whatevs fish. It felt good to be superior amongst many things with underdeveloped brains (eg. fish and children).
Yeah, today I happened upon a FÊTE AUX PAINS, or like a bread festival. I saw a dude rolling croissants. And another dude with a slightly different technique doing HIS croissants. It was cool! Boulangers look pretty great, old monsieurs with floury white hair and heaps of ringed fingers.
Also, I wish upon the mightiest star in heavenly heaven that it would stop raining here. 2 weeks is enough and eroding my happiness radar. I wanna bike ride and stufffff.

C'EST MOCHE!

So, I finally thought of a name for my bike. It came at a rather sudden moment when I was waiting in the line at the Pompidou Library yesterday and overheard a telephone conversation.

Please let me introduce Michel..

Michel, mon vel'
Veux-tu faire un trajet avec moi?
Dans les bois?

I think I'm pretty smart sometimes.

In other news, seeing Jarvis twice in one week wearing the same clothes is pretty dreamy. We gathered outside a gallery in Montmartre to witness him singing from a doorway. He has some excellent dance moves, that is for sure. And pulls an interesting crowd, including 8 year old kids smoking cigarettes and a bunch of dudes wearing glasses with no lenses. THAT'S MY KIND OF PEER GROUP. Sis and I gathered with another group of peers on the same Sunday evening at a concert aptly named MUSIC I USED TO LISTEN TO IN 2006. It wasn't really, but it did feature Xiu Xiu, Casiotone and Jeffrey Lewis. Man, all these dudes look like they walked straight from their bedrooms to the stage.. It was pretty ok, Jeffrey Lewis was quite entertaining with mini film things along the way.

Still searching for a job.

LES BOIS DE VINCENNES

Oh yeah so today I rode my trusty steed to Le Bois de Vincennes or in english The Woods of Vincennes... I think it used to be an old hunting ground for some rich dude once upon a time. I made a map showing where I went and interesting events that occurred along the way..

BIKE EXPEDITION #1

So I started at my house and rode a bit past the cemetery, down rue de Charonne where I encountered a market, yeah! Err I found my way to 1) Nation and spent a bit of time riding about the giant intersection before realising I was going back the way I live instead of onwards to the Park...Rode around some more, finally found the Porte de something to take me over the Periphique and VERS LES BOIS! 2) is where the zoo is. There was a pretty crazy man made mountain coming out of some enclosure, maybe for .. mountain lions? anyway, so 3) I rode around the woods, careful not to fall into any nettle-like plants that I had previously read about in Enid Blyton books. Europe woods are pretty great. It started to rain and I got bit by something on my neck. Itchy! I found 4) a velodrome? and a giant theme park thing were in the middle of the woods. Yeah it was pretty atmospherique until I crossed at the Porte de Charonne and found myself amongst some industrial chaos and smelly city smells. It was raining quite hard by this point and my glasses were beading. 5) is where I almost fell off my bike, skidding.. TIME: 1 hour 45 mins

In other news, I am seeing Jarvis Cocker again tonight. Everytime I think of saying his name I wanna say JOE COCKER and I get excited in a whole different way. Yeah and then eating a cheese platter or something.

FAIRE DU VELO

Bike riding in Paris is pretty scary. Yeah, there are the bike paths that suddenly end or take you in the wrong direction. I need to remember that people drive on the other side of the road here too! Today I rode to Le Musee D'Orsay to cash in on my billet gratuit for being an EU YOUTH. Its a pretty special place. Ate lunch on the steps. Sat in a room of paintings. Wrote a letter. Etc. After I went for a scenic ride home along Boulevard St-Germain, across Ile de la Cite and to Gare de Lyon which is kind of weird because I didn't mean to ride there. And then I somehow found my way home. THE SCARIEST PART WAS WHEN I FOUND MYSELF RIDING ACROSS THE EIGHT STREET OR SO ROUNDABOUT INTERSECTION AT BASTILLE AND THOUGHT "IF I WAS EVER KILLED WHILST BIKE RIDING, NOW WOULD PROBABLY BE THE TIME" AND OH! DID I MENTION THAT THAT PARTICULAR PART OF PARIS IS COBBLESTONED WHICH MAKES FOR A BUMPY RIDE.
Today is my 3 month anniversary with Paris.
